About Saferparks

Del Mar FairSaferparks is a non-profit public service organization founded in 2000 to help prevent amusement ride accidents through research, information sharing, and effective public safety policy.  It is not affiliated with any of the businesses listed on this site.

Saferparks works to improve the public's understanding of safety issues related to thrill rides and other commercial amusement activities, with particular focus on child safety.

  • In 2000, Saferparks launched this website to educate consumers about known safety issues related to use of amusement rides, and centralize the collection of data describing amusement ride injuries and regulatory requirements from a variety of jurisdictions.
  • Saferparks founder, Kathy Fackler, has been an active voting member of the ASTM F-24 industry standards committee for amusement rides and attractions since 2000. She is one of the few consumer representatives on the 900-person committee.
  • Saferparks provides computer services and other support for the Council for Amusement and Recreational Equipment Safety (CARES), the organization of government officials responsible for enforcement of amusement ride and recreational equipment regulations.

Saferparks is a non-profit corporation, tax exempt under IRS Section 501(c)(3) as a public charity. The Saferparks mission is funded entirely through grants and private contributions. The Saferparks corporate officers serve as volunteers, drawing no salary or other financial compensation. They are inspired to action on behalf of thrill-loving children everywhere.
